Miracle baby born weighing just 1Ib 3oz gets set to celebrate his first birthday

A tiny boy who was born at just 1lb 3oz and given a one in 10 chance of surviving is about to celebrate his first birthday.

Miracle baby Benjamin Astbury, conceived through IVF, arrived 12 weeks primary and was the smallest baby ever born at Wrexham Maelor Hospital in North Wales.

He grieved five cardiac arrests, and parents Taniya and Steve stayed told on several times he would not have the strength to come through the health problems he faced.

But Benjamin’s remarkable contest for survival has gone better than could ever have been expected and now the tiny tot is impending the more unlikely of first birthdays, on 15 April.

Little Benjamin now weighs in at about 13lbs.
